What color is your world? Seriously. Think about it. Do you see your world through rose-colored lenses or as hazy as London Fog? The way we see our world makes a huge impact on how we feel about our day-to-day life. Not all days are sunshine and roses, but on the days when the rain comes pouring in, it is nice to fall back on a sunny perspective.
When I find myself in a rut or just plain restless, I stop for a moment and check what area of my life all these feelings are coming from and decide that area might need a fresh coat of paint to brighten it up. How we see our world is our choice. Did you know we all have a happy meter? A study by a group of psychologists at the University of California revealed the following: 50% of our happiness is a result of our genetic happy meter; 10% is due to life circumstances; and the other 40% is based on the choices YOU make. Aristotle famously once said, “Happiness depends on ourselves.”
We can focus on the positive and amazing gifts we have been given and see bright yellow or we can focus on all of the challenges and disappointments and feel flat out grey. Happiness is a state of mind. It is not a collection of expensive items or a high profile social status. Happy people make a conscious effort to choose positive thoughts which lead to positive words and actions. We can’t see what is going right, if we only focus on what is going wrong. This does not mean changing how you look at your circumstances will change them. It simply means it will change the way you look at them. It is not as complicated a riddle as you may think. Change your perspective; change the color of your world. Try it. Start today.
